Mission

The Governor's Judicial Screening Committees are established by Executive Order to evaluate the qualifications of candidates and make recommendations to the Governor for appointment to judgeships other than those on the Court of Appeals.

Organization and Staffing

These committees are located throughout the State and consist of members appointed by multiple individuals including but not limited to; the Governor, the Legislature, the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals and the Attorney General. Members of these committees serve three-year terms.

Budget Highlights

The FY 2024 Executive Budget recommends $38,000 for this agency, unchanged from the previous fiscal year.

Program Highlights

When vacancies occur, the committee recruits, reviews and recommends a list of nominees for open judgeships. A report on the qualifications of each nominee is prepared and presented to the Governor for selection. The appointees are selected based on their individual merit.
