Mission

The New York State Board of Elections executes and enforces all laws relating to elections, oversees the conduct of elections as well as the disclosure of campaign financing and practices. The Board also strives to promote the full participation of the State's eligible voters and to maintain our citizen's confidence in the political process.

The Board is responsible for reviewing the practices of all 58 local boards of elections; regulating access to the ballot for State offices; approving voting systems for use within the State; maintaining the statewide voter registration database; disclosure and enforcement of campaign financing and practices; and implementing various Federal voting programs (i.e. Help America Vote Act, National Voter Registration Act, Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act).

Budget Highlights

The Executive Budget recommends $5.2 million for the Board. A $105,000 General Fund decrease reflects the Board's move from leased to State-owned office space, while the absence of new Federal grants results in a decrease of $1 million in Federal Fund appropriations. Reappropriations of Federal funds continue to be available to meet ongoing Federal election mandates.

The Executive Budget recommends a workforce of 58 FTEs, unchanged from the prior year.
