Mission

The New York State Workers’ Compensation Board protects the rights of employees and employers by ensuring the proper delivery of benefits to those eligible due to being injured or becoming ill while on the job and by promoting compliance with the law. To protect the well-being of New York’s labor force, most private and public sector employers in New York are required to carry workers’ compensation and disability benefits insurance for their employees or demonstrate their ability to self-insure. The Workers’ Compensation Board reviews claims for workers’ compensation payments and assists in resolving disputed claims.

Budget Highlights

The Executive Budget recommends $196.8 million for the Board, a decrease of $7.9 million from the 2011-12 budget. This decrease primarily reflects the elimination of non-recurring costs related to the Board’s management of failed trusts.

The Executive Budget recommends a workforce of 1,371 FTEs for the Board. This is a decrease of 9 FTEs from the prior year target, which can be managed through ongoing efforts of the agency to streamline their processes.
