Mission

The Department of Civil Service is charged with providing human resource management services to State and local governments. The Department assists State agencies with personnel recruitment and placement services, administers tests, oversees job classifications, and administers benefits.

Budget Highlights

The Executive Budget recommends $56.7 million ($15.7 million General Fund; $41.0 million Other Funds) for the Department. This is a decrease of $3 million which reflects management actions to lower spending and continuing attrition of staff. The Executive Budget recommends a workforce of 408 FTEs, a decrease of 8 FTEs from the prior year.

Legislation accompanying the Executive Budget will merge the Department of Civil Service and the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations to provide the State with a single entity responsible for a strategic approach to workforce management, including recruiting, training, promoting, and developing a best in class workforce for the people.
